Sexual harassment is unwanted sexual
attention. That means
that nobody wants it, regardless of the way they dress or act. It can
happen physically, verbally or visually.
Sexual harassment is also against the
law. You can be
suspended or expelled from school, lose your job, pay fines or even go
to jail.
A hostile environment is created when
one of your fellow
students or co-workers takes away your ability to learn or do your
job in a safe environment.
Quid pro quo sexual harassment happens
when the harasser has
power or authority over the victim. “Quid pro quo” means “this for
that,” such as, “if you do this for me, I’ll do that for you.”
Sexual harassment is another form of bullying.
If you have been sexually harassed, you are not alone. You
need to tell
the harasser to stop. If they don’t, you need to ask for some help.
Ask a teacher, a boss, an adult that you trust, anyone who can help
you feel safe in your work or school environment. Keep asking for
help until someone helps you.
There is no shame in asking for help.
